Great Schools North Carolina Awards Founder's Fellowship to Dr. Karen Anderson

Great Schools North Carolina is proud to invest $50,000 in Dr. Karen Anderson through the Founder’s Fellowship to support the design and launch of Hawkins Charter School, a proposed K–8 public charter school in the East Greensboro community in North Carolina.

A seasoned educator with almost 20 years of experience, Dr. Anderson has led turnaround schools, coached aspiring principals, and championed equity-centered leadership statewide.

Hawkins Charter School is envisioned as a museum-inspired learning environment blending rigorous academics with hands-on exploration, personalized instruction, and a dual-pathway model that elevates teacher leadership. Dr. Anderson will submit her charter application in April 2026, with a planned opening in Fall 2028. GSNC is honored to support her journey to bring this innovative school to “The Gate City.”
