Great Schools North Carolina (GSNC) is a new nonprofit organization that is actively building its founding team. Together, we will work to support proven charter school leaders across the state in taking on challenges related to new school launches, school quality, and facilities. It will take a dedicated, talented, diverse group to bring our vision to life, and we are excited to identify and onboard founding team members in 2024-2025.
Who You Are
You might be a good fit if you are:
Passionate about making a difference for children, families, and communities across the state. North Carolina has a strong history of school choice and over 210 public charter schools. GSNC will partner with the most forward-thinking leaders and organizations in the charter sector to continue to improve school quality and expand access to high-quality seats in the communities that need it most.
A proud resident of North Carolina or willing to spend time here to build deep and lasting relationships. Schools are community institutions and GSNC will help them deepen their impact by building trust and maintaining a regular presence in schools. Some roles will involve significant travel to schools; all roles will convene at least quarterly for team meetings.
Excited about building a new, sustainable organization from scratch. We need founding team members who can envision a better future for the children of North Carolina, while also building a well-resourced and stable environment for team members and the school leaders we serve.
A mid-level or senior-level professional with functional expertise and skills aligned to one or more of our areas of program and operational needs.

A mostly NC-based team with no physical office. The entire team will get together at least quarterly in rotating locations. Depending on scope of work, some team members may also have extensive local travel to visit schools.
Each team member will have a role and title, but everyone will share skills and knowledge generously to serve charter school leaders and students to the best of our collective ability.

Program Team
You might be a good fit for the Program Team if you have a proven track record in school quality or development. Roles will initially focus on designing and launching pilot grant programs and will then evolve into managing larger grantee portfolios over time.
New School Launches
Design and execute competitive grant programs to support school leaders who are either launching their first school or replicating / expanding their existing school(s)
Identify school leader needs (e.g., charter applications, school model development) and match with partner organizations, consultants, and coaches for support
Convene relevant leaders and partners in the sector to share best practices
School Quality Supports
Design and build cohort-based approaches to support school leaders with efforts to improve or accelerate their impact
