Our Commitment to Equity

At Great Schools North Carolina, we believe that every child in NC deserves access to a high-quality public education. However, we know that there is inequitable access to great public schools in our state due to systemic and structural biases that persist today. To provide the opportunity for more families to choose a great public school for their children, our 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity organization will focus on increasing access to high-quality seats in public charter schools that are focused on serving students most affected by these systemic biases, such as those from low-income households and students of color.

To accomplish this, we believe in:

  • Harnessing the power of philanthropy to create positive change

  • Scaling high-quality public charter schools to give more families better choices

  • Empowering school leaders to grow their impact

What this means for our team

We are committed to building an organization where team members who share these beliefs can bring their diverse backgrounds, experiences, and leadership to pursue our mission of bringing scale and quality to public charter schools in North Carolina. Our team will represent the best of our home state and its strongest advocates. We are an equal opportunity employer that celebrates diversity and is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all employees.

What this means for our supporters and partners

Our board and funders will bring their diverse perspectives and resources to champion our work and intended impact. As we decide how to deploy our philanthropic resources, our grantmaking processes will reflect our commitment to supporting education leaders who are committed to increasing access to public education options for students from low-income households and students of color. We will evaluate the mission and intended impact of potential grantees and partnerships through that lens, as well as taking into consideration how we can bring philanthropy to communities that have historically been overlooked and underinvested in.
